A Cedar Falls firefighter has resigned, becoming the the fifth to do so in the last month. The exodus appears to be, in part, due to a policy from the city of Cedar Falls to cross train police officers as firefighters. The Cedar Falls Firefighter’s Association feels as though those officers are replacing full time firefighters. President of the Cedar Falls Firefighter’s Association, Steve Dix, told KWWL that the cross trained officers learn firefighting once and may not use those skills until a much later date. Dix says those skills need to practiced on a daily or weekly basis in order stay sharp and that is not happening.
