Alleged Kidnapper Returns to Waterloo to Await Trial

The man who triggered an Amber Alert earlier this month when he allegedly kidnapped a Waterloo girl has been brought back Waterloo to await trial in jail, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. During a court hearing Thursday prosecutors asked for bond to be increased for 23 year old Daniyal Khan of Ann Arbor. They argued that Khan is not a United States citizen and does not live in Iowa which caused them concern that he would not show up for future court proceedings. The judge agreed and increased his bond from $150,000 to $500,000, cash only. Khan also had additional charges of Grooming, Child Stealing, and Enticing a Minor for Sexual Purposes levied against him. Those are on top of charges of second degree Kidnapping, Indecent Contact with a Child, and possession of a Depiction of a Minor in a Sex Act. Khan allegedly started a conversation with the 12 year old girl online and enticed her to send him pictures of her. Then, in early April, he allegedly drove to Waterloo and watched her home for over a day, contacting the girl on social media several times to tell her he was outside her home. On April 5th he picked her up and headed back to Michigan. During the drive he allegedly hugged and kissed the girl and asked her to be intimate with him. He was stopped and arrested near Benton Harbor, Michigan.
