Bill to Ban Sanctuary Cities

A bill that would ban sanctuary cities is headed to the Iowa House for debate. The House Public Safety Committee voted 11-10 Tuesday to advance Senate File 481, making it eligible for floor debate. The bill would require local law enforcement to work with federal immigration agents by going after illegal immigrants and enforcing federal immigration laws. Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek told KCCI in January that the bill adds an extra workload that the Des Moines Police Department is not prepared to handle. Those opposing the bill say they are disappointed but add that they wont give up now.
