Iowa sports broadcasting legend Bob Brooks died this weekend at the age of 89. Brooks covered a variety of sports like the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Olympics and local high school sports on the radio and TV for more than 70 years. He never retired working most recently at KMRY in Cedar Rapids. Brooks had a deep love for the Iowa Hawkeyes and particularly Hawkeye football where the first season he saw in person was Nile Kinnick’s Heisman season in 1939 and his final was this past magical Rose Bowl season. Brooks had many chances to move on to so called major markets but was devoted to Eastern Iowa and his hometown of Cedar Rapids in particular.
