Tuesday night the Waverly-Shell Rock boys cruised to victory with the wind in their sails as they beat Denver 8-1 at Gielau Field. The Go-Hawks had the wind at their backs in the first half and the wind did a complete 180 turn at halftime and picked up to be at the Go-Hawks’ backs again in the second half. Jeremie Podrier scored 4 goals, Carter Fecht added two while Zach Haaland and Payton Kipp also scored. In the loss Will Curtis scored the Cyclones’ lone goal.
The Waverly-Shell Rock and Denver girls will play Thursday at 4:45 on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3.
In other boys soccer: Cedar Falls hammered Western Dubuque 13-1, Columbus mauled Belmond-Klemme 10-0 and Waterloo West clipped Dubuque Senior 4-3.
In girls soccer: Western Dubuque edged Cedar Falls 1-0, Columbus crushed Webster City 10-0, Hudson topped Collins-Maxwell 4-2 and Dubuque Hempstead shutout Waterloo United 3-0.
