A historic Waverly bridge could get a new look and function.
Monday night, options were presented for transforming the Green Bridge into a pedestrian bridge.
The bridge used to be open to traffic. It was the way to get from the north to south side of the city over the Cedar River. But the city closed it in 2015 after inspectors found corrosion on vital parts of the bridge.
One of the options to replace the bridge includes pre-engineered steel trusses which would have a similar look to what is there now. The designers say this would be more aesthetically pleasing, but would cost more to maintain.
The other is a concrete beam bridge option. This would include stone, steel DOT beams and a concrete base. This would not resemble the current bridge, but wouldn’t be expensive to maintain.
