The City of Waterloo has filed a petition against Flirts Gentlemen’s Club, calling it a nuisance, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The city has cited a history of gunfire, assaults, and at least three incidents described as “riots” that took place in 2022. The city and Flirts came to an agreement in January that Flirts would install a full metal detector at the entrance as well as implementing a scanner to check identification cards. The city says that never happened. Lawyers for Flirts say those issues have been addressed. If the court sides with the city that could mean a temporary closure, temporary revocation of license, a change in business operations, or a bond requirement. In July, the city council denied renewal of Flirts’ liquor license. They are appealing that decision and are allowed to remain open during that time. While the current case is decided Flirts is only allowed to be open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
