Crash Sends 3 to the Hospital

A crash at the intersection of Highway 63 and Dunkerton Road on Friday sent three people to the hospital, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A minivan driven by 32 year old Ashley Burkey of Oelwein was traveling westbound on Dunkerton Road when she went through a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck driven by 30 year old John Barnes of Waterloo. Burkey and her two passengers, 47 year old Shelley Ergen and 20 year old Kennadie Sherman, were taken to Allen Hospital. Ergen was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries while Sherman and Burkey were treated and released. Barnes was treated at the scene. Barnes was towing another pickup truck at the time of the crash. The teen who was steering the second truck was uninjured. Burkey was cited for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign. Barnes was cited for Failure to Use Required Towing Equipment.
