Many students across the nation will be participating in a walkout protesting the violence in schools and the lack of change directed at it, including Waterloo West High, Cedar Falls High School and Hoover Middle School. Friday, April 20 was chosen because it is the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.
Director of School and Community Relations for the Waterloo School District, Tara Thomas, shares how the district plans on handling the situation:
According to the official website, www.nationalschoolwalkout.net, the walkout will take place at 10:00 a.m. and includes 1 minute and 13 seconds of silence for the victims of the Columbine school shooting.
