Drake University athletics director Brian Hardin named Aplington native Darian DeVries head men’s basketball coach Thursday.
A former starter at the University of Northern Iowa under coach Eldon Miller, DeVries has spent the past 17 years as an assistant coach to both Dana Altman and Greg McDermott on Creighton’s staff.
The 42 year old was one of the longest-tenured men’s basketball assistant coaches at one school in the nation, recently assisting to Bluejays to their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seven years. He’s spent a total of 20 years on Creighton’s staff.
