An escapee from the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility has been arrested after allegedly stealing a semi cab in Evansdale, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police accuse 41 year old Walter Aten of taking the semi from a shop on Jones Road around 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Witnesses reported the semi driving over a flood control dike and down a bike path. The semi was then spotted at a house in Waterloo, where authorities found Aten. They found the key to the semi in his pocket. Back at the shop, police found Aten’s bicycle encased in Styrofoam. He told police he had done that in case he got into an accident. He also told police he had taken the semi cab because he needed to jump start an excavator. Aten was charged with first degree Theft. He was already serving time for driving a stolen Hino Motors box truck in November. In October he was convicted of stealing a “no parking” sign.
