On 10/09/2024 at 12:46PM the Black Hawk County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a residential fire at 9900 Opal Lane #6 in Cedar Falls. The person calling 911 reported hearing an explosion and observing a yard shed and home on fire.
Responding Public Safety Officers and Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home and from a yard shed. Firefighters learned that all persons were out of the home. Firefighters did retrieve one cat from the home and paramedics provided the cat with emergency care. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented damage to neighboring homes.
The home sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation – but it is believed to be related to an occupant of the home performing maintenance on a motorcycle near the home just prior to the explosion / fire. The Red Cross was contacted to help provide resources to the occupants of the home.
