Firefighters from multiple communities responded to a fire at Flint Hills in Fairbank overnight Wednesday. The fire raged at the ethanol plant for more than 8 hours with crews from Fairbank, Westgate, Independence, and Waverly battling the blaze. Crews used liquid nitrogen in an attempt to knock down the flames in one of the silos. A video posted on the Facebook page of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office shows the scene. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said that there was no risk of an explosion.
