Waterloo firefighters pulled a man from the Cedar River after he jumped from a bridge in an apparent suicide attempt, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The man, who has not been publicly named, climbed over the railing on Mullan Avenue Bridge at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. He then sat on the ledge cutting himself. Sheriff’s deputies, police and firefighters were all attempting to talk the man back to safety. A Waterloo Fire Rescue boat was launched and other rescue workers were staged downstream. After about 2 hours the man stood up and jumped into the river. Crews in the boat were able to get him out of the river. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
