Former Church Leader Found Guilty

A church and community leader from Waterloo has been found guilty of having sex with a 15 year old girl, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 43 year old Jamodd Sallis was accused of having sex with the girl both at his home and while on trips to Davenport for church choir practice. Sallis claimed on the stand that he only had sex with the girl in Davenport. He intended to argue that she actually sexually assaulted him by threatening to claim he raped her if he did not have sex with her. He said a previous accusation of sex with a teenager had ruined his standing in the church and he did not want that to happen again so he gave in. The judge ruled that the compulsion defense was not available in allegations of sexual abuse of minors. Sallis impregnated the victim but called the DNA results “fishy”. The jury of 11 women and one man took just 30 minutes to find Sallis guilty of third degree Sexual Abuse. He will be sentenced at a later date but prosecutors are pursuing the case as a habitual offender crime. Sallis has 22 prior theft, forgery, and firearm charges. Sallis served on the Waterloo Police Rebranding Committee tasked with replacing the griffin logo.
