Former Iowa Clergy Arrested in Florida

A former associate pastor in Charles City allegedly sexually abused boys in the 1980s in Dubuque and has now been arrested in Florida, according to KWWL. 68 year old Leo Riley served as an associate pastor and pastor for the archdiocese of Dubuque between 1982 and 2002. Four individuals have now come forth to say that Riley sexually abused them while they were children between 1984 and 1986. At that time Riley was serving at the Church of the Resurrection in Dubuque. In 2002 Riley requested to be moved to the Diocese of Venice, Florida. In May Riley was placed on administrative leave before being arrested in Port Charlotte, Florida on Wednesday. He has been charged with five counts of second degree Sexual Abuse. Authorities believe it is very possible there are more victims in Iowa and Florida and encourage any victims to come forward, no matter when the abuse may have happened. While in Iowa Riley served St. Joseph Parish and Notre Dame High School in Cresco from 82-83, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City from 86-90, as well as parishes in Buffalo Center, Woden, Forest City, Lake Mills, Postville, Clermont, Rockwell, Dougherty, and Rockford from 90-02.
