For the second time this month, UNI senior and former Go-Hawk star Emma Hoins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s (MVC) Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
A Waverly, Iowa native, Hoins was selected as this week’s honoree after leading the Panthers with a 56th place individual finish this past Friday at Missouri’s Gans Creek Classic in Columbia with a new career-best time of 21:11 in the six-kilometer race, the sixth-fastest mark in team history. Hoins has led the Northern Iowa women in all three races this season, which included a tenth-place effort at the Cyclone Preview to earn her first MVC weekly honor, as well as a runner-up finish at Illinois State’s Redbird Invite two weeks ago.
Hoins and the Panthers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Dan Huston Invite, hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
