Iowa is once again a leader on a list that states would like to avoid.
The Hawkeye State appears on this year’s worst puppy breeders rankings, released annually by The Humane Society of the United States.
The organization has named 15 breeding facilities as alleged puppy mills, with eight of the listings categorized as repeat offenders for appearing on previous lists.
Reported violations range from poor living conditions for the animals to one instance of a dog being shot and killed on a site in Dows, Iowa
