A judge has granted a default judgment against a former Waterloo radio station with programming aimed at the Black community, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Regions Bank took Afro-American Community Broadcasting to court in April 2024 over an unpaid loan for more than $150,000. Afro-American Community Broadcasting is the non-profit parent company of KBBG. Earlier this month a judge ruled in favor of the bank after the radio station failed to respond to the suit. The loan was apparently taken out after a legal battle over a loan from Dupaco Credit Union ended in the station being foreclosed upon. Afro-American Broadcasting’s then-chairwoman, Gloria Kirkland-Holmes disputed the foreclosure saying the station’s board had not approved the loan and employees had taken it out against the wishes of the board. The station was set to be the subject of a sheriff’s sale after that judge sided with Dupaco, however Dupaco’s lawyer later cancelled that request. The station has been off the air since last November but Executive Director, Pastor Corey Holmes, also known as DJ Babyface, says, “There is still going to be a radio station. That is definitely coming back.”
