A Waterloo man was arrested over the weekend after leading police on a high speed chase and shooting his own vehicle, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. An officer pulled over a Ford Escape driven by 47 year old Martez Woods at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday for a brake light that was out. When the officer realized that Woods and his passenger, Roxanne Porter, were parties to a restraining order, Woods drove off. The chase reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, at which point police called the chase off for safety reasons. They later located the vehicle in the 1200 block of Columbia Street with a fresh bullet hole and a spent .380 casing nearby. Woods, who had fled the scene on foot had allegedly hidden the gun in a nearby yard. Police allegedly found cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana inside the vehicle. Woods restraining order meant to keep him away from Porter was issued after Woods cut off his pinky finger while attempting to stab the tires on her vehicle. The finger was later found in a Dairy Queen restaurant. Woods is prohibited from possessing firearms after a felony robbery conviction in 2009 in which he held a knife to another person’s neck. He has been charged in this case with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Eluding, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Interference, Violation of a No Contact Order, Carrying Weapons, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Porter was also charged with Violation of a No Contact Order.
