A Waterloo man who has repeatedly unlawfully possessed firearms has been sentenced to two years in prison. 26-year-old Dazarris Shemeek Wilkerson was sentenced September 19 after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon April 5. During the plea Wilkerson admitted he had a pistol on June 4, 2017, when he was a convicted felon. When officers made contact with Wilkerson that day, he was drunk and had marijuana. Wilkerson was previously convicted with being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm in 2011. In 2012 he was convicted of carrying weapons in state court. During his plea agreement he also admitted police found him in January 2016 with a handgun under the seat in the same car. Wilkerson was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by Chief United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand to 33 months in prison.
