Monday night the Mason City Community School District retired their mascot, the Mohawks. According to the Globe Gazette, effective immediately the district will stop the use of “Mohawks” to introduce the athletics teams, which will now be referred to simply as “Mason City”. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe had sent a letter last month asking the school to stop using their tribe as their mascot.
