Former Cedar Rapids Xavier star Adam McDermott will transfer from North Dakota and join the men’s basketball program at Northern Iowa.
McDermott, a 6-4 shooting guard, announced earlier in the week that he was leaving UND after one season. Wednesday, he confirmed he will be going to UNI, initially as a walk on with hopes of earning a scholarship as a junior
As a Division I transfer, McDermott must sit out one year. He may begin play for the Panthers beginning with the 2017-2018 season, and he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining at that time.
McDermott said family reasons played a major role in his decision to leave UND and join UNI, and his familiarity with the Panther program.
