An Oelwein man has been arrested for threatening to shoot up and blow up the Independence Walmart, according to KCRG. Employees of the pharmacy reported to police that a man had called twice and threatened two different employees. While the police were on location the caller, later identified as 49 year old Shawn Armstrong, called again. An officer answered the phone and identified himself at which point Armstrong allegedly shouted derogatory, racial expletives at the officer and threatened to blow up the store before hanging up. The police then called Armstrong back. He denied making the threatening calls, however he later admitted to the calls but that he was misunderstood. The officer then informed him of the seriousness of his words. Armstrong then threatened to kill the officer. Armstrong has been charged with Threats of Terrorism, Threat of Explosive or Incendiary Device, and Harassment in the First Degree.
