A person had to be rescued from underneath the Bremer Avenue Bridge in Waverly on Sunday night. A pedestrian was walking on the bridge around 9:30 p.m. when they heard someone yelling for help under the bridge. Police were able to see the individual when they arrived on scene. Traffic was temporarily stopped while crews attempted to raise the male in a basket from the river to the bridge platform. Due to the male’s condition, police requested the assistance of AirCare, which landed on the bridge. The male was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The male’s name has not been released.
