Tuesday night on KWAY Country the Waverly-Shell Rock Boys Basketball team won its season opener 59-47 over Waterloo East. The Go-Hawks were led in scoring by Senior Austin Phyfe who had 24 points. The Go-Hawks are next in action Saturday at home versus Cedar Rapids Xavier.
In other boys scores Tuesday night: Aplington-Parkersburg beat BCLUW 64-48, Dunkerton topped Tripoli 68-59 and North Butler got by Northwood-Kinsett 46-42.
In girls basketball Tuesday night: Cedar Rapids Kennedy thumped Waterloo East 53-27, Dike-New Hartford hammered Waterloo Columbus 42-25, Meskwaki Settlement beat Waterloo Christian 61-19, North Butler topped Northwood-Kinsett 40-32, North Tama beat Valley Lutheran 42-37, Rockford slammed Nashua-Plainfield 33-16 and Waterloo West beat Cedar Rapids Prairie 60-49.
