Tuesday night on KWAY Country the Waverly-Shell Rock baseball team began their season with a sweep of Oelwein. The Go-Hawks took Game 1 15-0 in 4 innings behind a 9 strike out no-hitter from Payton Leonard. In Game 2 the Go-Hawks won 14-0 in 5 innings using extra base hits and 8 errors from the Huskies.
Tuesday night on Y99.3 the Clarksville softball team beat North Butler 5-1 behind Chey Behrends’ double and home run.
In other area softball Tuesday night: Wapsie Valley edged Union 4-3, Janesville beat Hampton-Dumont 8-5, Oelwein crushed Dunkerton 13-1, South Hardin beat Aplington-Parkersburg 10-3, Osage edged Denver 5-4 and Dubuque Hempstead beat Waterloo East 17-8
In other area baseball Hampton-Dumont beat Janesville 13-5, Union clipped Waspie Valley 6-4, Columbus topped Gladbrook-Reinbeck 11-8, North Butler beat Clarksville 11-1, Dike-New Hartford defeated Clear Lake 8-4, Cedar Falls clipped Waterloo West 8-7 in 8 innings and Linn-Mar beat Waterloo East 8-2.
