Tuesday night on Y99.3 in girls basketball Waterloo Columbus overcame a 10 point halftime deficit to beat Wapsie Valley 48-42. Maddy Knipp of the Sailors led all scorers with 14 points.
Tuesday night on KWAY Country the Waverly-Shell Rock basketball teams got a sweep. In the girls game the Go-Hawks beat Western Dubuque 51-38 behind 20 points from Katelyn Eggena. The Go-Hawks are now 1-1. In the boys game Waverly-Shell Rock got 26 points from Cole Marsh to beat Waterloo East 53-49 in the season opener.
In other boys basketball: Dunkerton used 39 points from Preston Gillespie to beat Clarksville 89-42, Denver topped Crestwood 68-50, Janesville beat Waterloo Christian 60-42, Nashua-Plainfied got by Rockford 68-37, Sumner-Fredericksburg beat Waukon 57-46 and Tripoli edged Riceville 43-41.
In other girls basketball: Denver beat East Marshall 68-30, Waterloo Christian topped Janesville 66-32, Nashua-Plainfield hammered Rockford 49-13 and Riceville upended Tripoli 62-30.
