Tuesday night in volleyball Waverly-Shell Rock won a Northeast Iowa Conference title by sweeping previously conference unbeaten Decorah 25-22, 25-23 and 25-14. In the win Go-Hawk Avery Beckett made history. Beckett now has 489 kills this year passing Morgan Kurtt’s 481 kills in 2011 to become the school’s single season kills record holder. Kurtt will be inducted in the State Volleyball Hall of Fame this Fall.
Tuesday night on Y99.3 the Class 2A 7th ranked Denver Cyclones beat the Class 3A 5th ranked Union Knights 25-21, 21-25, 17-25, 25-14, 15-7.
In other area volleyball: Cedar Falls swept Cedar Rapids Washington and Kennedy and was swept by Xavier, Sumner-Fredericksburg beat Jesup in 4, North Tama edged Tripoli in 5, Iowa City West swept Waterloo East and Western Dubuque, Dubuque Senior and Iowa City Liberty beat Waterloo West.
