Rattlesnake Seized from New Hartford Home

Iowa DNR Officers seized an endangered Massasauga Rattlesnake from a house in New Hartford on June 6. DNR staff came to the house after receiving complaints about an endangered species being at the residence. 50-year-old Brian Anderson was not present during the execution of the search warrant that took place at his house in New Hartford, but he turned himself into the Butler County Sheriff’s Office on June 7. Officers also seized other snake-related contraband and turned over other illegal contraband to the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Narcotics Enforcement for investigation and potential additional charges while serving the warrant. Anderson is being charged with one count of illegal possession of protected non-game and one count of illegal possession of an endangered species
