The Iowa Court of Appeals has denied a Waterloo man convicted of robbing a store in 2015 a new trial, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Charles Jones was convicted of first degree Robbery, Going Armed and Making a False Report to Law Enforcement after robbing Rays Supermarket on Franklin Street. He went into the store and demanded the clerk open the cash register. The clerk reached for his own gun and a shootout ensued. Jones was shot in the armpit. He argued that at trial jurors should not have heard conflicting statements he made to investigators because he was on pain medication and in shock. The appeals court found that it was unlikely that would have changed the outcome of the case.
