The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a recent increase in scam calls in the area. They say the scams have taken many different forms including texts about Amazon orders, not showing up for jury duty, social security issues, civil lawsuits, people claiming they are serving civil papers, Publishers Clearing House, lottery winners, warrants for your arrest, needing bond money for someone you know, US customs, Post Office issues, you’ve been hired for a job but need to buy things, pets for sale, and law enforcement impersonators. Most of the time they ask for personal information and/or that you purchase prepaid credit cards or gift cards. The Sheriff’s Office says just hang up and never provide that information over the phone. The scammers can make any name they want show up on your phone so even if that seems credible it is not. The Sheriff’s Office says nobody is calling you to give you free money, just hang up.
