A Waterloo man will argue self defense when he goes to trial for the killing of his cousin in March, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 58 year old Dorray Cooper is accused of shooting LaVance Cooper with a handgun in the early morning hours of March 22nd. Cooper’s attorneys say that they intend to introduce evidence of self-defense, defense of others, or defense of property. Cooper faces a charge of first degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Habitual Offender enhancements have also been filed because of Cooper’s prior convictions for second degree Robbery in Webster County and Homicide by Vehicle in Black Hawk County.
