Thursday night in area softball: Cedar Rapids Washington beat Waterloo West 8-4, Waterloo Columbus topped Sumner-Fredericksburg 9-2, Denver edged Hudson 4-3, Jesup ten runned Aplington-Parkersburg 14-4, North Butler hammered Belmond-Klemme 12-0, Rockford ran by Nashua-Plainfield 12-2, Union beat Clarksville 9-2 and Waterloo East swept Iowa City High 12-1 and 8-0.

In area baseball Thursday night: Cedar Falls split with Dubuque Senior winning 5-3 and losing 9-1, Dike-New Hartford beat Denver 7-2, Janesville topped Nashua-Plainfield 7-5, Jesup edged Aplington-Parkersburg 11-9 in extras and Sumner-Fredericksburg beat Waterloo Columbus 5-2.
