Tornadoes Damage Two Communities

Storms Monday spawned a tornado in Charles City as well as one in Lime Springs. The Charles City tornado was rated a EF-1 doing major damage to the fairgrounds. Law enforcement also reported damage to rooftops, homes, and trees. The National Weather Service said peak winds reached 110 mph as the tornado traveled 9 miles with a maximum width of 60 yards. The tornado started southwest of Charles City and ended northeast of town, but missed the town as a whole.

The Lime Springs tornado was a slightly weaker EF-1. Winds in that tornado reached 105 mph. Its path extended 9 miles with a maximum width of 50 yards. The National Weather Service says that tornado started 2 miles south of Saratoga before dying out about a mile southwest of Lime Springs. There have been no reports of injuries from either twister.
