The W-SR Community Schools sent a follow-up to a previous email. Here is that email:
Dear Waverly-Shell Rock Families,
I’m writing to provide you with a follow-up concerning the safety-related incident that occurred Sunday evening.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has informed us that the immediate threat has been addressed and there is no ongoing threat to our schools. Law enforcement has also determined that there is no indication that anyone other than the individual who sent the message was involved in this situation.
We understand that families have questions about whether the student who sent the concerning message will return to school later this week. Because student-specific disciplinary information is confidential and protected by law, the district cannot publicly share an individual student’s disciplinary consequences.
More generally, I can tell you that Waverly-Shell Rock does not tolerate threats or behavior that disrupts the safety and sense of security of our students, staff, and families. When a student makes a threat of this nature, the district will take swift and appropriate action and pursue disciplinary consequences available under district policy and law, including the most serious consequences when warranted.
I also want to share that we have reviewed our communication protocols following Sunday evening’s incident. In the future, when a late-night safety concern requires communication with families, the district will send both an email and a text message to parents and guardians to help ensure that the information reaches them promptly.
We appreciate our ongoing partnership with families and the work of our area law enforcement agencies as we work together to keep our students, staff, and schools safe.
