Thursday night on KWAY Country the Grand View Christian Thunder edged the Wapsie Valley Warriors 7-6 to win the Class 2A State Softball Championship. The Warriors led 4-0 until Sophie Bird tied the game with a grand slam in the 3rd inning. The Thunder would eventually go up 7-4. In the 7th inning the Warriors got a 2-run home run from Maddie Ladeburg to get within one run. In the 7th inning the tying run got on base but Wapsie Valley couldn’t push it across.
Wapsie Valley finished the season with a 21-8 record and a trip to the Championship Game for the first time in 57 years. Warriors Taylor Buhr, Sawyer Buhr and Lola Destival were named to the All Tournament Team.
