Wartburg BBall Wins, Wrestling to National Duals

Wednesday night in college basketball: Senior Katie Sommer became Wartburg’s career leader in assists in the 86-44 win over Central. She broke a 32-year old school record, previously set by LeAnn Bollum at 419 from 1981-85. Sommer surpassed the mark in the second quarter, as she needed three to tie the mark entering the contest. Her record-setting assist was on a jump shot by senior Aryn Jones with 6:55 left in the frame.

With the victory, the 2nd ranked Knights move to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in IIAC games.

The 18th ranked Wartburg men’s basketball team defeated Central 80-65. Junior Josh Gehling netted a new career high and team-best 15 points. The Knights are now 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in the conference.

In college wrestling top-ranked Wartburg is seeking its 12th NWCA National Duals title and eighth-straight crown this week. The NWCA National Duals will take place at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana Thursday and Friday. The Knights will wrestling either Olivet or Augustana at 10:00 this morning.
