The following is from the Waverly Police Department:
On 07/28/2026, the Waverly Police Department arrested Steven Dean Peters (69) of Waverly for the crimes of Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree (class B felony) and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor (class C felony) pursuant to allegations that Peters committed a sex act against a minor child as well as knowing that the sex act would be photographed, filmed, or preserved in a visual depiction. The allegations were committed in the year 2022 and were recently reported to Waverly PD while the defendant was incarcerated for a different criminal offense. Peters was transported to the Bremer County Jail where he was seen by the judicial magistrate and held on $100,000 bond amount.
If convicted, Peters faces prison sentences up to 25 years for the class B felony and up to 10 years for the class C felony.
