Waverly will be devising a new long-range strategic plan for the town’s wastewater treatment facility to comply with recent Iowa Department of Natural Resources guidelines.
According to Public Works Director Mike Cherry, the city has a plan to deal with the situation and also is equipped with the resources available for replacements of equipment at the plant, located off of Eighth Street Southeast near the Waverly Shell Rock Soccer Complex.
Last year, the DNR reissued the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the city’s treatment plant. The new permit now includes nutrient reduction requirements in support of the state’s nutrient reduction strategy.
