Peoples Community Health Clinic in Waterloo has received a $4.2 million gift from MacKenzie Scott. Representatives of Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, say the the unsolicited gift comes with no requirement of progress reports says because they believe Peoples Community Health Clinic know how to use the money better than they do. Scott is the third wealthiest woman in the United States, according to Forbes. She is a signatory to the Giving Pledge, which commits her to giving at least half of her wealth to charity. Her foundation, Yield Giving, has donated more than $14 billion since 2019. Peoples CEO Christine Kemp says they are not sure how they will use the money yet but they have talked about saving the money and growing it to ensure long-term stability.
