Woman Guilty of Murdering Her Mother

A Waterloo woman has been found guilty of murdering her mother in 2023, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A jury deliberated Tuesday night and Wednesday morning before finding 36 year old Sarah Brown guilty of first degree Murder. Just days before the murder, Brown had been released from prison after serving time for drug related offenses. On the day of the murder Brown and her mother, 54 year old Roberta Nagy were in a vehicle together when they got into an argument. That argument continued when they arrived back at Nagy’s apartment eventually leading to a tussle over a knife. Brown won control over the knife and stabbed Nagy 33 times and strangled her with a phone charger cord. The defense argued that Nagy, who had drugs in her system at the time, had inflicted the injuries to herself. Brown wrote in a note on the day after the killing that “she wouldn’t die, so I tied a phone charger cord around.” Brown will be sentenced to life in prison when she is sentenced at a later date.
