Plea Deal in Hotel Harassment Case

A woman from Greene who admitted to harassing two gay men and two transgender people at the hotel in which she worked has taken a plea deal, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 35 year old Ashley Bartels was working at the AmericInn by Wyndham in Osage last year when she began calling the group derogatory names and directing abusive epithets toward their sexuality and gender. She was originally charged with four counts of Assault- Violation of Individual Rights, four counts of first degree Harassment, and one count of Marijuana Possession. As part of the plea deal three assault charges, three harassment charges and the marijuana charge were dropped. Bartels was sentenced to a year in jail for each of the remaining charges, however each was suspended. The harassment sentence was suspended except for 20 days and the assault sentence was suspended except for 15 days. Those sentences will be served consecutively and Bartels will be on probation for two years.
