At least 400 people lost their life on the roadways of Iowa in 2016. That number is up from 316 deaths in 2015, an increase of 26 percent, and the most since 2008. While the number currently sits at 400 that number could still rise as the DOT has not yet accounted for any fatalities on the last day of the year. Law enforcement say that distracted driving is still a major problem on the roadways and has played a part in the large amount of fatalities in 2016.
