With no more expected rain in Bremer and Butler Counties, many are now working to clean up the devastating damage left from the flood.
The group has opened three shelters across Eastern Iowa for anyone affected by flooding. The shelters include a place to sleep, clothing, supplies, first aid, food, water, and comfort. Shelters for those affected by flooding are open in Waverly and Cedar Falls.
Grace Baptist Church in Waverly has Red Cross clean up kits available.
Those in Cedar Falls can go to the West Gym on the University of Northern Iowa’s campus.
Many parts across Waverly experienced flooding, but nowhere near record levels in 2008 when the Cedar River crested at 19.3 ft. This year, the Cedar River in Waverly crested at 13.2 ft.
In Shell Rock, record level flooding hit town as the Shell Rock river crested at 21.5 ft. In 2008, the record was 20.4 ft.
Houses in Shell Rock are submerged in water. Driveways are completely flooded, leaving homeowners stranded outside their homes.
Many roads are still closed, because of the flooding.
Water also completely flooded the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock.
