A bond issue for a new gym and classrooms for the Janesville Consolidated School District fell short of passing by 14 votes Tuesday, April 5.
The district put an approximately $5.4 million bond issue before voters to fund a new high school gym and locker room facilities, two new elementary classrooms and a preschool classroom and nap room.
The issue needed 60% supermajority support to pass. It secured about 58% of the unofficial tally Tuesday. The issue drew 835 people to cast ballots of 1,871 people registered to vote in the district.
Janesville Superintendent B.J. Meaney says that he is proud of the community of Janesville and the great voter turnout.
Unofficially, 487 voted in favor of the measure with 348 against. Of the turnout voters, the measure would have needed 501 votes in favor to pass.
