Local Businessman Pleas Guilty

A Waterloo businessman has pleaded guilty to two counts of filing fraudulent tax returns, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Benjamin Stroh failed to disclose all of his income, specifically cash income from one of his businesses in 2018 and 2019. Court records only identify the company as “Company 1” but Stroh built a business empire by recycling transformers, according to a 2018 Courier article. He then became the driving force in turning the former Kmart Plaza at Crossroads Center into the area that currently houses Tokyo Bay Japanese Steakhouse, Kwik Star, Freddy’s and the strip mall in the same location. He also partnered with UnityPoint Health to replace the Logan Plaza strip mall and surrounding land into the North Crossing medical facility. Stroh’s businesses have dealings throughout the country. Stroh remains free at this time, he will be sentenced at a later date.
