Oelwein Woman Involved in High Speed Chase

An Oelwein woman has been arrested after a high speed chase in Waterloo last Monday morning, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police pulled over 35 year old Ashley Torres in the area of Conger Street and Logan Avenue around 1:30 a.m. because her brake light was out. Officers detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and when they told Torres they would need to search the vehicle she sped off. Torres allegedly threw bags of contraband out of the vehicle as she fled. She also allegedly swerved around vehicles and hit speeds of 75 mph in a 25 mph zone during the chase. Police say she even drove on sidewalks. Police seized a large amount of cash, scales, bags of drugs, and seven cell phones from inside the vehicle and along the chase path. Torres was charged with Eluding, Possession of Cocaine and Marijuana With Intent to Deliver, Violation of Drug Tax Stamp Act, Reckless Driving and Interference. She was also charged in a February 12th incident where 50 grams of methamphetamine were found inside a vehicle in the EconoLodge parking lot.
