A Waterloo Police officer has been charged in a motorcycle crash that killed his girlfriend, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 34 year old Keaton Northup was allegedly travelling at speeds of more than 100mph and weaving in and out of traffic on Interstate 380 with his hazard lights flashing on his motorcycle on June 1st of last year. His girlfriend, 29 year old Jenna Mills, was on the back of the bike. Northup eventually lost control of the motorcycle and hit a metal pole. Both Northup and Mills were thrown from the motorcycle. Mills was killed in the crash and Northup was seriously injured. The couple had allegedly visited several bars where Northup had at least 10 alcoholic drinks prior to the crash. His Blood Alcohol Content was measured at .292. On Wednesday Northup was charged with Homicide by Vehicle-Operating Under the Influence and Homicide by Vehicle-Reckless Driving. His bond was initially set at $100,000 but that was lowered to $25,000, which he posted and was released. Northup has since bought a new motorcycle. He is also still an officer with the Waterloo Police Department and has been on paid administrative leave since the crash.
