According to KWWL, the Waterloo school board has voted to move forward with their plan to consolidate their two high schools into one beginning at the end of the decade.
The new school is expected to be built in the Central Middle School area, and construction is set to begin already by next spring. Waterloo West and Waterloo East will remain open, but they will become middle schools, serving up to the 9th grade.
The district hopes to have the new school open by the 2028-2029 school year. Monday’s meeting passed $165 million in revenue bonds, coming from the district’s SAVE fund. The money comes from a statewide 1% sales tax divided between school districts on a per-pupil basis, versus a levy or tax bond referendum vote.
